v. & n. --v.tr. (glutted, glutting) 1 feed (a person, one's stomach, etc.) or indulge (an appetite, a desire, etc.) to the full; satiate; cloy. 2 fill to excess; choke up. 3 Econ. overstock (a market) with goods. --n. 1 Econ. supply exceeding demand; a surfeit (a glut in the market). 2 full indulgence; one's fill. Etymology: ME prob. f. OF gloutir swallow f. L gluttire: cf. GLUTTON
